Reason code CO 144 FAQ

Q: We received a denial with claim adjustment reason code (CARC) CO 144 Incentive adjustment, e.g.preferred product/service. We are not sure why this is now showing on our remittance and what exactly is it?
A. The payment adjustment noted is generated by the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) for eligible clinicians who are subject to a negative, neutral, or positive payment adjustment as part of the Quality Payment Program (QPP). For more details, please contact the QPP Helpdesk at 1-866-288-8292 or QPP@cms.hhs.gov.
