A. PECOS is a national database of Medicare provider, physician, and supplier enrollment information. PECOS is used to collect and maintain the data submitted on CMS-855 enrollment forms.

The internet-based PECOS  is the online enrollment system providers use for submitting their enrollment applications. You can manage your PECOS account in the Identity & Access system (I&A). Your I&A password must be changed every 60 days. You will not be able to access I&A or internet-based PECOS if your password expires.

If you start an application in internet-based PECOS, never submit it, and then determine the application is no longer needed, you can delete the application. You can do this by logging in, then select My Enrollments, and click on View Enrollments beside the appropriate provider or organization. After selecting the correct provider or organization that the application was created for, click on More Options beside the pending application. This will provide an option for deleting the application.

For more information, please view the CMS resources on the internet-based PECOS  website.
