What is the RAC?
The Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) program is a cost containment effort aimed at reducing improper payments within Medicare programs as well as identifying process improvements to reduce or eliminate future improper payments. On January 1, 2010, CMS put in place the permanent Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) program. It awarded contracts to four permanent RACs.
