Improve your billing

First Coast Service Options Inc. (FCSO) offers providers the latest in self-service technology to ensure they have the resources they need to bill Medicare correctly -- the first time. The following self-audit resources have been designed to help you improve your Medicare billing efficiency and accuracy.
A well designed compliance program can also help improve your billing. Click here for more information.
Provider Data Summary (PDS) report
Available exclusively from FCSO, the PDS report offers jurisdiction 9 (J9) providers the valuable opportunity to compare billing patterns with those of their peers and to proactively respond to adverse billing trends within their own business. Accessible through the PDS portal, this free online report helps J9 providers identify recurring billing issues through a detailed analysis of personal billing patterns in comparison with those of similar provider types (during a specified time period). Best of all, the PDS report allows providers to respond proactively to prevent the recurrence of avoidable errors that could negatively impact their bottom line.
Comparative billing report (CBR)
Comparative billing report (CBR) information is available to providers by request. The purpose of the CBR is to offer providers access to the comparative data that Medicare considers when determining how a provider’s billing patterns contrast with other providers in the same specialty. Providers may request different types of CBRs based on various criteria (e.g., type of bill, provider-specific E/M distribution, service-specific E/M distribution). Note: Available data and required processing time may vary based on the parameters specified in the CBR request.
E/M interactive worksheet
Evaluation and management (E/M) services refer to visits furnished by physicians and when billing Medicare for a patient visit, it is essential that the code selected is the one that accurately reflects the level of E/M services performed. Designed to be used like an online form, the purpose of FCSO’s E/M interactive worksheet is to assist providers with identifying the appropriate E/M code based upon either the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) 1995 or 1997 documentation guidelines. Once the user has indicated the type of patient visit and has made selections in the three key sections -- History, Examination, and Medical Decision Making -- the E/M interactive worksheet will automatically calculate a suggested E/M code based on those entries and the user’s preferred set of E/M guidelines. The design of the worksheet also makes it ideal for use as a checklist or as a quality assurance tool.
