Electronic dental claims (837D)
First Coast is now able to accept Part B dental claims in the 837D electronic claims format. These files may be submitted by dental providers or billing services and clearinghouses after being enrolled for 837D and passing the 837D test file requirements.
EDI enrollment and testing is required to submit 837D dental claim files. This is in addition to any previously completed enrollment and testing for 837P (Part B professional) claim files. The EDI enrollment forms have been updated to include a section for dental claims.
837D claim files may be submitted through the direct secure file transfer protocol (SFTP) or SPOT connection process. Submit the appropriate updated enrollment form based on your connection method if you will be sending dental claims. For connecting through SFTP to submit dental claims, submit the EDI enrollment form for providers or the EDI Third Party Enrollment Form for billing services and clearinghouses. For connecting through SPOT, refer to the “How to register for SPOT” web page. Once the form is processed, an 837D test file with a minimum of five claims is required for all submitters. Refer to the 837D Companion Guide for the testing requirement details.
SPOT, our free online portal, will allow the 837D electronic claim files to be submitted through the Claim Submission / ERA feature but it will not provide details on dental claims in any other features. For example, the claim status feature will not include any details on dental claims and the claim correction feature will not display any dental claims for correction possibilities.
