Special instructions for electronic funds transfer (EFT) accounts and special payment addresses

Previously, providers and suppliers with multiple provider transaction access numbers (PTANs) under one enrollment record were allowed to have a different EFT account and/or special payment address for each PTAN.

Effective December 5, providers and suppliers may only have one EFT account and special payment address per enrollment record.

Note: Organizations may have more than one enrollment record on file with Medicare. For example, an organization has an opioid treatment program (OTP) and a clinic group practice. Because they are different Medicare-recognized specialty types, each specialty type enrolls in Medicare and subsequently, has their own enrollment record.

Initially enrolling providers and suppliers and new owners in a certified or supplier change of ownership (CHOW) should only supply one EFT account and one special payment address on their initial enrollment application.

For already established Medicare providers and suppliers, your enrollment record information will remain in effect until you submit an application to change your EFT account information and/or special payment address. Once you submit the change, the new EFT account and/or special payment address will be on file for all PTANs, which may result in end-dating the existing EFT account(s) and/or special payment address(es).

If your organization has more than one enrollment record, and you change the EFT information or special payment address on one enrollment record, and the other enrollment record will not be affected.

PECOS gives you the ability to verify all current enrollment information and organization enrollment records. For more information related to this change, you can view:
