CMS moratoria for enrollment of hospices and home health agencies (HHAs)

CMS has implemented a six-month, nationwide moratoria on new Medicare enrollments for both hospices and home health agencies (HHAs). This also applies to application submissions adding a new HHA branch or hospice practice location received on or after the implementation date of the moratoria.

The moratoria allow CMS to temporarily halt the influx of new providers (and new locations) into these high-risk categories to protect Medicare beneficiaries and taxpayer dollars while identifying, investigating, and removing existing bad actors exploiting the system.
