Internet-based PECOS: System registration requirements

To take advantage of the internet-based Provider Enrollment, Chain, and Ownership System (PECOS), applicants must first become a registered user of the system. However, registration requirements vary based upon whether the user is an individual physician/non-physician practitioner or a member of a provider/supplier organization.

Individual physician and non-physician practitioner requirements

To utilize internet-based PECOS, an individual physician or non-physician practitioner must first establish a Web user account with the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) external link and have an active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
Note: The User ID and password associated with the individual practitioner’s NPPES Web user account should be used to login to Internet-based PECOS external link.

Provider/supplier organization requirements

If a provider or supplier is a member of an organization and has an NPPES Web user account, he or she must also be associated with the organization’s NPI via the PECOS Identity and Access Management (I&A) system.
However, if a provider/supplier does not have his or her own NPPES Web user account but is acting on behalf of the organization, he or she may create a login for internet-based PECOS through the PECOS I&A system external link.

Internet-based PECOS: Assistance with user account

The External User Services (EUS) help desk external link -- 1-866-484-8049 -- offers providers and suppliers assistance with their internet-based PECOS user account.
External User Services (EUS) help desk contact information:
