Medicare enrolled ambulance suppliers administering the COVID-19 vaccine
Last Modified: 7/11/2022

Business: Part A, Part B
• Medicare Part B ambulance suppliers who plan on providing the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine must separately
enroll
as a non-institutional provider type, such as a mass immunizer.
• Enrolling over the phone is easy and quick — call your MAC-specific
enrollment hotline
and give your valid legal business name (LBN), NPI, TIN, practice location and state license, if applicable.
• Note: It is suggested to obtain a new
NPI
for the mass immunizer to simplify the billing process.
• When the credentialing process is completed, you will receive a new PTAN for the mass immunizer enrollment. If you applied for a new NPI, that NPI will be associated with billing for the administration of the vaccine and monoclonal antibodies.
• Our Claims Processing unit recommends using a one-to-one NPI-PTAN match. If your enrollment dynamics permit the use of one single NPI to one PTAN, then you will diminish the need for us to develop for claim matching and/or avoid possible claim rejections. This will prevent unnecessary claims processing delays and administrative effort by both the MAC and provider:
• If a new NPI was not obtained, please follow the guidelines below.
Follow the instructions below for additional information that can be reported on the claim to assist the system in making the correct NPI/PTAN match.
Ambulance transports and mileage claims
• Report the ambulance taxonomy code in
loop 2000A
of the electronic format.
• Reporting the taxonomy code may allow the claims system to attach the correct ambulance PTAN to the transport and mileage claim.
• Ambulance taxonomy codes Include:
• Ambulance Service Provider 341600000X Transportation Services/Ambulance
• Ambulance Service Provider 3416L0300X Transportation Services/Ambulance, Land Transport
