Medicare secondary payer (MSP) inquiry

Do you have questions on Medicare secondary payer (MSP) claims?
Here are some suggestions to determine whether a patient has Medicare as a primary insurance:
Contact the Part A interactive voice response (IVR) system, by calling 1-877-602-8816. Refer to the Part A Quick Reference Guide pdf filefor instructions.
Direct data entry (DDE) pdf file users may obtain MSP information via the ELGA (eligibility A) screen.
Have your patient complete the Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) Questionnaire external link to help you determine if Medicare is primary or secondary.
Prior to calling our contact center, First Coast Service Options (FCSO) recommends providers assist the beneficiary with contacting the Coordination of Benefits Contractor (COBC) to have the beneficiary's file updated. Information on how to contact the COBC can be located by clicking on this link: http://www.cms.gov/COBGeneralInformation/03_ContactingtheCOBContractor.asp external link.
If your claim has rejected due to MSP (U6802), click here.
Click here if your claim rejected for Medicare secondary payer (MSP) and the common working file (CWF) has been updated.
